[NEWS] [2018] Tales Weaver M Brings Back Memories

2019-05-22

Developer : Nexon  Genre : MMORPG  Platform : mobile  Date of issue : expected in 2019

The game that brings back your memories of 15 years ago just by hearing the preludes, including Second Run, Reminiscence, Good Evening and Narvik, Tales Weaver, has been born again for the mobile environment. Based on the original novel Children of the Rune by Min-Hee Jeon, Tales Weaver M is the online game Tales Weaver optimized to suit the mobile environment. Based on the original version's contents and graphics, it is characterized by a strong story and key contents.

The demonstration version of Tales Weaver M could be met at G-STAR 2018's Nexon booth. It allowed the users to freely explore the field, the chapter dungeon and the story dungeon and enjoy hunting with main episodes for four different characters.

The traditional method has been newly developed to suit the mobile environment, but the story, music, and visual are all came from the original work to bring back memories from childhood. Remembering how I used to hang out all day at the Narvik flea market and being so happy when someone gave me a whispering message, I tried the demonstration version of Tales Weaver M.

Tales Weaver M once again brought me back the memories of the original version

Tales Weaver M consisted of the quest that restored the quest of Episode 1 in the original version that can no longer be played. The official version will have all 8 characters that lead the story of Episode 1, but G-STAR only allowed you to select 4 characters from the Accipiter guild. Among them, I chose the character Boris that was a bit disappointing because the face from the 45 degrees and the front showed a great difference.

After completing the character selection, I started episode 1 with the familiar bgm playing in the back. I followed the story with the event scene, followed by the battle recomposed for the mobile environment. The event scene used the original version so that I felt like meeting Tales Weaver again in a very long time.

As memories flooded back of Raidia and Narvik while playing the quest in the main chapter, I remembered many feelings of playing the original version. After the official opening, it felt good to imagine what it would be like to sit around the Narvik portal filled with the users.

All delightful faces but you cannot choose the four characters yet, including Shadow and Ash.

The event scene showed the same modeling of the characters from the original version.

Memories flooded back from just sitting in the village.

The demonstration version allowed you to decorate as much as you want like dressing up the avatar for mini homepages.

Tales Weaver M offers a new battle optimized to the mobile environment

The battle of Tales Weaver M was changed to suit the mobile environment based on the original version. It applied the UI that can be seen in other mobile RPG, but there was still the hitting sense of one blow after another.

Also, the newly added chain arts system allowed the users to make their own skill combination, while also making your own combat style by investing on the skill point of your choice. It was a bit disappointing not to see Boris cutting with tremendous motion in Yeon, but despite the lack of button arrangement on the mobile device, it revived the original version's feeling to showcase unique and splendid combat system, showing that lots of effort has been made into this work.

The combat system that mixes and uses different skills was changed to suit the mobile environment, but there was no big difference from the original version in that you go around the field and catch monsters and complete the quest by collecting materials. The difference was that the new version took away the burden of roaming around the field to collect materials and looking for monsters by adding the auto button. The noticeable change was that you had to avoid the floor during the battle against the boss. However, excluding some minor details, it is almost the same as Tales Weaver you play on the PC.

Chain arts system allows you to enjoy splendid battle scenes with limited buttons.

The key to the battle against the boss is to avoid the floor.

The auto button prevents the users from roaming around in the forest to collect materials

Can Tales Weaver M go beyond being just a game that brought back memories?

Tales Weaver M is a game that makes you think of the old days in many ways, making you think it was like that before and the story was really good here. As you listen to Tales Weaver's music that is still loved today after so long, you feel like you have gone back to your school days about ten years ago even during the short demonstration. This is definitely one of the merits and strengths of Tales Weaver M.

However, this cannot work with the young users who don't know the original version or the original novel Children of the Rune. It can attract users who still remembers Children of the Rune, 4 Leaf and Tales Weaver, but we have to keep in mind that the game cannot last long just by relying on the beautiful memories of the past.

Despite these worries, the first impression of Tales Weaver M that I first saw through G-STAR demonstration was good. It captured the original version's unique sentiment to suit the mobile environment, while also made sure the operation and battle were not boring. After the demonstration, I got curious about the remaining four characters' stories I have not met yet because you cannot play them anymore even if you install the PC version.

As a user who remembers the original version, I look forward to Tales Weaver M being an attractive game not only for the users who reminisce about the original work, but also the new users who play it for the first time.
